本片以上世紀(jì)六十年代的本地家庭為主軸，通過(guò)成員的際遇，帶出早期的甘榜生活以及后來(lái)的組屋生活，劇情橫跨數(shù)十年。
電影也將體現(xiàn)新加坡如何從一個(gè)以方言為主流語(yǔ)言的社會(huì)演變成華語(yǔ)到現(xiàn)今英語(yǔ)的過(guò)程，從中回顧流失的方言。它也會(huì)融入導(dǎo)演的許多親身經(jīng)歷，并將安插多首懷舊歌曲。
